Where the example profit goes
$55.00 revenue
$8.48 fees
$26.00 costs
$20.52 profit
Item $50, buyer shipping $5, and tax $4.40 make seller revenue $55.00. The most-categories fee on the $59.40 base is $8.48. Product $20, shipping you pay $5, and packaging $1 are the $26.00 costs.
Sales tax can raise the fee while staying out of your revenue
For this US case, the fee base adds the item price, buyer-paid shipping, buyer handling, and sales tax. Seller revenue is that base without the tax. The per-order fee is $0.30 when the base is $10.00 or less and $0.40 when it is higher. Athletic shoes at a sale total of $150 or more drop the per-order fee and use 8%.
Books and magazines, Movies & TV except Movie NFTs, and Music except vinyl records and Music NFTs use 15.3% through $7,500. Guitars and basses use 6.7% through $7,500. The named trading-card rows use 13.25% through $7,500. Each of those rows then charges 2.35% only on the excess. Bullion, handbags, and most jewelry switch the rate for the whole total instead.
Rates were read from eBay’s selling-fees page on October 8, 2026. The Seller Center overview uses the same general, guitar, card, and media rows. The page does not publish a start date for this table. A Store subscription uses a different table, so type that fee as a custom rate.

Common questions
Why are fees calculated on sales tax?
For the supported US case, eBay includes tax in the final-value fee base. Remitted tax is not seller revenue. The explanation above links the selling-fees page read on October 8, 2026.
Why are buyer shipping and shipping cost separate?
Buyer shipping is money collected from the buyer. Shipping you pay is what you spend. The two amounts can differ.
Does the tool add PayPal processing?
It does not add a separate PayPal fee to a managed-payments order. Enter any real extra cost in the other-cost field.
What about my Store or category?
The named rows use the October 8, 2026 non-Store table. For a Store subscription, a category that is not listed, or a sale that needs another schedule, choose Custom unverified rate and type the percentage and per-order amount you already know. The result is marked custom. Shipping exceptions, a seller outside the US, and another currency stay unsupported.
Is payout the same as profit?
Payout is seller revenue minus eBay’s fees. Profit also subtracts product cost, postage, packaging, and the other costs you enter.
Why might my actual fees differ?
Category, shipping exceptions, promotion, seller performance, credits, refunds, the sale date, and invoice rounding can change the bill. Compare the assumptions with your statement.
